Your Library'sBook-Saving Sidekick
We make it easy for libraries of all sizes to pass along retired books, CDs, DVDs, video games, and Playaways. No sorting. No stress. Just a smarter way to keep books in circulation and out of landfills.
Choose the Program that Fits Your Library
Some libraries just want the books gone. Others want to earn as much as they can. Pick either program, or run both at once. Scan N Box pays 20% to 50% on each item we sell. Bulk Removal is free, with earnings on select items.
Scan N Box
Your team scans each book with our custom tool. We take the most expensive books and handle the listing, selling, and shipping. You earn a share on every item that sells.
20% to 50% on every item we sell. Every partner that scans earns.
Locations that need to decide where each book goes: the book nook, the book sale, or a bigger community project.
Bulk Removal
We leave a rolling bin onsite and empty it on a regular schedule. No scanning, no sorting, nothing for your staff to handle.
Free pickups, always. Eligible locations earn up to 50% on select items.
Locations with limited time, staff, or space.
Both together
Scan the books you want to sell through us, and keep what you need for your own sale. Your onsite bin takes the excess you have no room for.
Scan N Box earnings on what you scan, and free removal of the rest.
Locations that want to earn more but don't have the room to hold every book.
Scan N Box earns on every book. Bulk Removal earns on select books. Each up to 50%.
What your library earns depends on your program and your books. Get in touch, and we'll walk you through it.
How each program works
Three steps either way. Run one program, or both at once.
How Bulk Removal Works
Three steps, no sorting.
Let's Chat
We'll help you find the perfect pickup plan for your space, schedule, and shelving situation. Whether you're a small branch or a busy main library, we've got you covered.
Fill Your Bin
Once you've got one of our rolling bins, just drop in your discards, neatly or not! No scanning, no sorting. Our Accepted Materials sheet will help you know what goes in (hint: almost everything).
That's It!
We swing by on schedule, grab your full bins, and handle the rest. If you're filling up faster than expected, just holler, we'll arrange an extra pickup in no time.
How Scan N Box Works
Three steps, and you earn on every book that sells.
We set you up
We give your team a login to our scanning tool and show you how it works. No scanner? We'll provide one.
Scan your Items
Scan each item to see where it should go next. Box up the selected items to earn the most. The rest stay with you for the book nook or book sale.
We sell, you earn
We pick up the boxes, or get them shipped to us. You earn on each item when it sells, paid out monthly.
Every scan is useful, even the ones we pass on
When we pass on an item, the scan still helps you sort: genre, demand, and a suggested price are all displayed on the same scan. Those items go straight to your book nook or next book sale, already sorted and priced.
FAQs
Do you take library books?
Yes! In fact, a majority of books we process come from libraries. We love working with local libraries to keep books circulating to readers everywhere!
Do you take old books?
Yes, we love old books! At Knowledge Exchange, we believe no book is too old. No ISBN? No problem. Victorian, even better. We make sure history does not go to waste!
Can our library or friends group receive payment for materials?
Yes! Reach out to our team to learn more about our payment solutions!
Do you only accept books?
Nope! We take most of the materials your library handles, including books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, audiobooks, encyclopedia sets, and more. Reach out to us for our full criteria sheet.
How big are your rolling bins?
Our standard rolling bins measure 42" x 30" x 37". They typically hold 350-450 books.
What if we don't have space for rolling bins?
No problem! While most libraries use our standard rolling bins, we offer other alternatives. From smaller bin sizes, box pickups, or having our team load our bins directly from your shelves, we can accommodate almost any limitation.
Do you offer post-sale removals?
Yes! Post-sale removal services are provided for all partner locations. Is your library interested in a one-time post-sale pickup? Reach out to discuss your options.
How do we determine the right pickup schedule?
A quick conversation with our team will help us estimate how many bins your library needs and how often pickups should occur. We'll tailor a schedule that works for you.
What if our bins fill up before the scheduled pickup?
Our goal is to prevent bins from filling up early using our regular and recurring pickup system. If this happens, just let us know, and we'll arrange an expedited pickup. If we notice an uptick in early pickups, we will proactively adjust your schedule or provide your location with additional bins to better suit your needs.
Where do the books go?
Once collected, materials are processed at our warehouse in Franklin Park. Some are sold online to cover operational costs, while others are redistributed and recycled. We work with organizations like World of Books, Bernie's Book Bank, local bookstores, and other charitable organizations. If there's a specific group you'd like us to support, let us know!
