Every book deserves another chapter.
Knowledge Exchange is a book rescue and redistribution company based in Franklin Park, Illinois. Our mission is simple: extend the life of every book.We're book people from the very communities we serve, and we partner with libraries, schools, and families across Chicagoland to rescue, redistribute, and rehome books that are no longer needed.
This site is our home-pickup service for the Chicago suburbs: households with 3 or more boxes of books can schedule a free doorstep pickup on the route that already runs through their neighborhood. No driving, no drop-off lines, no need to be home.
What happens to your books
Collected
Our trucks run published routes through the suburbs. You pick a date your neighborhood is already scheduled, set the boxes out by 8 AM, and we handle the rest.
Sorted and rehomed
Every box comes back to our Franklin Park warehouse, where our team evaluates each title. Rehoming always comes first: books flow back to readers through literacy charities like Bernie's Book Bank, schools, and community programs. Reselling a portion of the books is what keeps pickups free.
Nothing landfilled
Whatever can't find a new reader is responsibly recycled. Most items we collect are rehomed or recycled, which keeps paper waste out of Chicagoland landfills.
Honest about what we are
Knowledge Exchange is a for-profit company with a sustainability mission. That means we can't issue tax-deductible donation receipts, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than let you find out later. What we can promise: pickups are always free, your books genuinely go back into circulation, and nothing you give us ends up in a landfill.
